An Exceptional Custom Instrument by Momose

Owning a guitar born in the Aska workshop is a truly distinct experience. This MES1-BP/NJ ST-BR model represents the pinnacle of Japanese craftsmanship: a one-off Custom instrument built according to the precise vision of japanguitar-handmade.com.

Following the Momose workshop's decision to stop taking custom orders in 2024, this guitar stands as one of the very last custom creations available outside of Deviser's bi-annual events. By choosing this piece, you become the custodian of a living chapter of Japanese luthiery.

The Spirit of Master Craftsmen

At the heart of Momose's philosophy lies the legacy of Yasuo Momose, Senior Master Builder. Since 1977, when he established the foundation of instrument crafting within the Deviser group through the acoustic brand Headway, Yasuo Momose has shaped the history of Japanese guitar making. Revered for his uncompromising standards, he engineered his own custom woodworking tools to adapt to the wood rather than forcing the material into shape.

While mass production relies heavily on CNC routers to yield uniform batches, the artisans at the Aska workshop craft each instrument entirely by hand, honoring the tradition of the 1950s and 1960s. Every piece of timber possesses its own density, resonance, and character. Guided by their five senses, the craftsmen shape necks and adjust joints by feel, backed by decades of expertise.

Warm and Balanced Acoustic Resonance

The semi-hollow construction of the MES1-BP/NJ relies on a strict selection of tonewoods chosen for their sonic performance and stability.

  • Laminated Plain Maple Body: Provides a crisp attack, clear definition, and excellent feedback resistance essential for semi-acoustic instruments. The natural resonance of the hollow cavity adds that signature warm acoustic bloom.

  • 1-Piece African Mahogany Neck: Adds mid-range warmth, harmonic depth, and natural sustain. Its single-piece construction guarantees optimal vibration transfer to the body.

  • Madagascar Rosewood Fingerboard: Rare and remarkably dense, this wood provides articulate high-end response while smoothing out sharp transients. The tactile sensation under the fingers is smooth and refined.

Refined Finish and Custom Electronics

This MES1-BP/NJ features a Top Lacquer finish in a See Through Brown shade, revealing the wood grain beneath a thin coat of nitrocellulose lacquer that lets the tonewoods breathe. Combining this deep brown tone with gold hardware and the signature Momose Headstock gives this unique piece an enduring elegance.

Under the hood, original BEANO humbucking pickups capture the instrument's full dynamic range. They translate the body's acoustic character with clear note separation, rich harmonics, and a tight response. From warm jazz passages to expressive blues and driven rock rhythms, every detail of your playing shines through.

Featuring a balanced neck grip, Jescar FW9662-NS frets, a Tokiwa ABR-1 bridge, and Gotoh SD90-SL tuners, this guitar delivers complete comfort and tuning stability right out of its included hardshell case.
