 Momose MJ1/R – Renew 2026 Series

A bass guitar for discerning musicians

With this 2026 version of the MJ1/R, Momose reimagines its iconic model in the spirit of the Jazz Bass, taking detail, precision and playability to new heights. This is an instrument that exudes the spirit of the workshop: every curve, every finish tells the story of the luthier’s craftsmanship.

Handcrafted in the Aska workshop in Japan, this bass embodies the artisanal approach so dear to Deviser: no impersonal mass production, but a genuine instrument with character.

A natural and expressive sound balance

The choice of wood is by no means trivial:

  • Alder body (2P Alder): a true classic, renowned for its tonal balance. The bass is present without being overpowering, the mid-range sings naturally and the treble remains smooth. The result: a versatile bass, perfect for both live performances and studio work.
  • Maple neck: crisp attack, excellent stability and an immediate feel under the fingers.
  • Indian rosewood fingerboard: adds a touch of warmth and roundness, ideal for enriching the tonal spectrum

This woodwind trio offers a rich, dynamic and highly musical sound, capable of adapting to a wide range of styles.

The 2026 updates: greater control, more character

The Renew 2026 series marks a real step forward for Momose:

  • New Gravitas pickups: perfectly balanced response across all strings, with deep bass and rich mids that give the bass a strong presence in the mix.
  • Turbo Switch: a real surprise. Pulling the tone knob activates a passive boost that thickens the sound. Ideal for switching from a subtle groove to a powerful bass line in an instant.
  • Centralab oil-filled capacitor: greater precision in the nuances and a more lively sound projection.
  • Luminlay markers: visible in the dark, perfect for the stage.

Gameplay that makes all the difference

The Momose doesn’t just have to sound good; it must also disappear beneath your fingers:

  • Comfortable and natural C-shaped neck profile
  • Flatter 310R radius → low action and easier fast playing
  • Redesigned cutaway → unrestricted access to the high frets
  • Optimised neck-to-body joint for a smoother feel
  • Wood binding on the fingerboard: exceptional comfort and a premium finish

Add to that Jescar frets, an ultra-stable Gotoh bridge and precise tuning machines, and you’ve got a bass that’s reliable in any situation.

The Momose DNA: a unique signature

The Momose brand is named after Yasuo Momose, a Japanese master craftsman respected throughout the country. For decades, he has perfected his art by crafting instruments entirely by hand, even going so far as to design his own tools to meet exceptionally high standards.

This attention to detail and quest for the perfect touch are evident in every instrument. At Momose, nothing is left to chance. This explains why these basses are now sought after by musicians all over the world.

Deviser: a story of passion and resilience

Founded in 1977 in Nagano, Deviser has weathered many challenges to become a leading name in the industry.

Today, Deviser is renowned for the quality of its instruments, which are either handcrafted or manufactured to extremely high standards, with rigorous quality control carried out in Japan.

 Why choose this MJ1/R?

Because it doesn’t just reproduce a classic. It elevates it.

Because it offers you a wide range of sounds, without compromising on feel.

Because it’s built to last… and to inspire.
