The Art of Japanese Lutherie at Your Fingertips
Founded in 1977 in Nagano, at the foot of the Japanese Alps, Deviser has built a legendary reputation among the most demanding musicians. Born from a love for high-end acoustic lutherie before reinventing electric guitars and basses in the early '90s, Deviser breathes a unique soul into every instrument. At JapanGuitar-Handmade.com, we share this passion: as pioneers in distributing the Bacchus brand in France and Europe since 2014, we are proud to be your specialist and exclusive distributor for the handcrafted gems signed by Momose, Headway, STR, Seventy Seven, and Bacchus.
A Spalted Maple Top: Nature's Unique Signature
The first look at the Bacchus WL4-SPM RSM/M is a journey in itself. Its Spalted Maple top features graphic, dark, and wild grain patterns born from a natural aging process deep within the forest. Each bass is a unique piece of art: no two are alike. To magnify this organic texture, the luthiers chose an extremely thin matte Open-pore finish. Far from thick gloss coats that choke the instrument, this finish lets the wood breathe and transmits string vibrations directly to the Nyatoh body, a tonewood selected for its warm roundness and excellent sustain. Elegant black binding highlights the sleek curves of this "Woodline" style body, which is slimmer and more ergonomic than a standard J-Bass, providing ultimate comfort whether playing seated or standing.
The Secret of the Roasted Maple Neck and Brass Plate
Under your fingers, the comfort is magical. The neck and fingerboard are crafted from Roasted Maple. This high-end thermal treatment removes moisture from the wood, mimicking decades of natural aging. The result? Outstanding structural rigidity that resists temperature changes, a smooth-as-silk feel, and that highly sought-after vintage tone characterized by a crisp, dynamic attack. At the neck joint, an exclusive high-density brass plate adds weight to the bottom end, delivering rich mids and deep, punchy lows with incredible presence.
Ultimate Sonic Versatility: The Turbo Switch
On the electronics side, this model has a clever trick up its sleeve. Equipped with two original JB-style single-coil pickups, the bass delivers that classic, precise, and grooving tone perfect for funk, rock, or jazz. But pull up the tone knob, and you engage the legendary Turbo Switch. By connecting both pickups in series, the bass transforms, unleashing the fat, heavy, and muscular sound of a humbucker pickup. Ideal for pushing an amp or delivering a powerful solo.
The Excellence of the Japan Tune-up (JT) Series
This bass belongs to the renowned Bacchus Japan Tune-up series. What does this mean for you? While the woodwork is shaped in strictly selected workshops in Asia, each instrument travels to the Deviser Technical Center in Matsumoto, Japan. There, the expert hands of Japanese master luthiers refine the instrument from top to bottom:
-
Fret Crowning and Polishing: The edges of each fret are meticulously rounded by hand using files and sandpaper. No more sharp edges; your slides will feel completely smooth.
-
PPS Nut and Saddle Adjustment: The nut slots are custom-filed, and the brass-saddle bridge is adjusted to achieve the ideal low action without any unwanted fret buzz.
Every instrument is tuned, inspected, and set up according to drastic standards. Your bass arrives at your doorstep ready to hit the stage, straight out of the box.
