Headway HC-URUSHI/Coffee’25/STD FBK – The coffee-inspired Japanese acoustic
Imagine a guitar that blends the ancient Japanese art of Urushi lacquer with the uniqueness of the Kentucky Coffee Tree. That’s exactly what the Headway HC-URUSHI/Coffee’25/STD FBK offers: a rare, inspiring model designed to elevate your playing moments.
A fusion of two crafts
Built in collaboration between Headway’s master luthiers and Urushi lacquer artisans, this guitar features a finish only 0.05 mm thick, protecting the Sitka spruce top while letting it breathe. Unlike standard coatings, Urushi ages beautifully and enhances resonance as years go by.

Urushi lacquer: an ancient Japanese art for guitars
Urushi is a natural lacquer derived from the sap of the Urushi tree, used in Japan for over 7,000 years to decorate and protect bowls, furniture, and art pieces. The process is highly delicate: raw resin is harvested by hand and applied in ultra-thin layers, each one drying under carefully controlled temperature and humidity. The result is an extremely durable finish, naturally water- and insect-resistant, which continues to develop a unique patina over decades.
Applied to a guitar, Urushi creates an ultra-thin protective coat (only 0.05 mm) that allows the wood to vibrate freely and express its full acoustic potential. Unlike thick industrial coatings, it provides a pure, natural, and evolving resonance that grows richer as the instrument is played. Owning an Urushi-finished guitar means holding an instrument that matures with you, carrying the heritage of a millennia-old Japanese tradition.
Clear, evolving sound
Thanks to the Advanced Rear-Shifted Scalloped X-Bracing, each string remains well-defined, with remarkable projection and clarity. The more you play, the richer it becomes.
Coffee-inspired design
The FBK (Dark Roast Black) finish recalls roasted coffee beans, while the coffee bean inlays bring a subtle, playful charm—perfect for a “coffee break guitar.”
