A Historic Collaboration: The Spirit of James Tyler, The Hand of Aska

The story of STR Guitars is deeply intertwined with Satoru Yatsuka, a leading figure at DEVISER (founded in Nagano in 1977). From its earliest days, DEVISER immersed itself in traditional know-how to break free from standard templates and establish its own identity of excellence.

In 2014, the late James Tyler—who passed away in 2024 but whose philosophy and passion vibrate forever in this guitar—was searching for a workshop in Japan capable of bringing his demanding designs to life. Visiting the ASKA workshop, he discovered exceptional craftsmen working completely without CNC machines. Blown away by their precision, Tyler CAD-designed an exclusive body shape dedicated to STR. The STR JTG Design series was born: the perfect curves of a California icon, sculpted by the soul and accuracy of traditional Japanese lutherie.

For this unique work of art, the STR workshop drew from its rarest wood reserves, patiently seasoned over many years.

• The 1-Piece Flame Tochi Body: The body is carved from a single, massive block of Tochi (Japanese Horse Chestnut), a rare wood of stunning visual beauty thanks to its intense flame grain. Acoustically, Tochi offers incredible dynamics, with textured clarity in the midrange and pure, crystalline highs that cut through any mix with rare elegance.

• The Flame Sakura (Japanese Cherry Blossom) Top: A symbol of nobility and poetry, the flame Cherry top brings warmth, a beautiful low-end foundation, and infinite sustain. The visual and sonic transition between these two premium woods creates an instrument of absolute acoustic balance.

• The Purple Heart Fretboard & "Tree of Life" Inlays: The natural Purple Heart fretboard provides extreme rigidity, delivering an ultra-precise attack and a brighter high-end peak than rosewood. It is sublimated by a magical "Tree of Life" inlay, portraying delicate cherry blossoms and flowing vines along the neck.

• Craftsmanship down to the details: The pickguard and backplate are also carved from solid Purple Heart wood, showcasing a commitment to detail pushed to its absolute limits.
