Owning a Japanese handcrafted instrument means embracing a piece of history, patience, and precision. Built at the initiative of JapanGuitar-Handmade.com, this Momose Custom MC2-TW/R ST-BR was not produced on an assembly line: it was crafted as a single, unique piece (1-Off Custom). Following the permanent suspension of custom build requests by the MOMOSE workshop in 2024, this guitar is one of the ultimate opportunities to acquire a custom build outside of the rare Deviser Special Showcase Events.
A Legacy Shaped by Yasuo Momose
The MOMOSE signature embodies the pinnacle of Japanese lutherie. Carrying the name of Senior Master Builder Yasuo Momose, a key figure in instrument making since the founding of Headway in 1977, the brand preserves traditional handcrafting techniques that prioritize manual artistry over mass industrial yield.
Recognized for designing his own woodworking tools and jigs to meet the exacting standards of high-end guitar making, Yasuo Momose built an elite team of craftsmen at the famous Aska workshop in Matsumoto (Nagano Prefecture). At Momose, wood is never treated as a standardized commodity: each piece of ash, maple, or rosewood is carved with careful consideration of its individual mass, elasticity, and acoustic resonance. This fundamental respect for the raw material endows Momose guitars with their distinct acoustic dynamics and instantly recognizable organic feel.

2-Piece Ash Body (Ash 2P): Celebrated for its clear projection, the selected ash delivers snappy dynamic response, tight low-end, and crystalline highs. Its top lacquer See-Through Brown finish allows the grain to show through while enabling the wood to vibrate naturally without dampening the tone.

Thermo Wood Maple Neck: This heat-treatment process under vacuum removes residual moisture, granting the neck the structural stability of century-old timber along with an extremely fast, mature unamplified resonance.

Indian Rosewood Fingerboard: Paired with hand-applied wood binding along the fretboard edges to prevent fret sprout caused by humidity changes, the rosewood board adds warmth, roundness, and harmonic cohesion to balance the punch of the ash body.

Momose VS-1 Pickups & Electronics: Outfitted with in-house VS-1 single-coils, the instrument delivers a clear, articulate attack. The tonal response offers vintage warmth in the intermediate positions while providing the clarity and bite required for modern music production.

Gotoh® Hardware & Oiled Bone Nut: The Gotoh® GE108TS tremolo bridge and Gotoh® SD91-05M MG locking tuners ensure flawless tuning stability and optimal string-to-body vibration transfer.
Enhanced Playability and Ergonomics
The MC shape reinterprets the traditional ST body style to deliver superior comfort. The treble-side horn cutout is subtly widened to allow effortless access to the upper Jescar® Nickel-Silver frets. The recessed drop-in neck plate smooths out the heel area without compromising tone transfer. Additionally, the expanded truss-rod adjustment channel on the headstock simplifies routine maintenance.
Every guitar arrives ready to play, thoroughly inspected and setup at the Deviser technical center in Matsumoto prior to shipping (fret crowning, string action adjustment, intonation tuning).
