A Sacred Tonewood: The Acoustic Mastery of Kuro-Ezo-Matsu
At the heart of this guitar lies a top wood of incredible rarity: Black Ezo Spruce (Kuro-Ezo-Matsu), harvested from the natural forests of Hokkaidō. Kept in the private reserves of the Aska workshop for years, this tonewood rivals the finest Adirondack Spruce in structural stiffness, harmonic complexity, and dynamic headroom.
Acoustically, Black Ezo Spruce delivers a sharp attack, rich overtones, and immense projection. Paired with Indian Rosewood back and sides, it develops deep, warm lows while maintaining shimmering high-end clarity. The African Mahogany neck, complemented by an eco-friendly Richlite fingerboard, ensures flawless tonal transfer and rock-solid stability.
Finished in a striking Black Vertical Gradation (BK-VGR) under a ultra-thin urethane coat, the wood's fine grain shines through an elegant, dark, and royal aesthetic.
The Legacy of Master Builder Yasuo Momose
To understand Headway is to understand the vision of its founder. In 1977, Yasuo Momose established Headway with a single purpose: crafting acoustic guitars built to last a lifetime. Drawing inspiration from vintage American acoustics, Momose-san pushed precision further by hand-crafting his own custom tools to achieve tolerances unheard of in conventional manufacturing.
Recognized as a Master Artisan in Japan, Momose instilled this uncompromising mentality into the Aska Team Build master craftsmen. Free from automated CNC machinery, every instrument in this series is individually hand-carved, voiced, and adjusted to achieve uncompromised playability and acoustic expression.
Acoustic Engineering: Mid Point Shifted Bracing
For The Eagle, master builders Masato Yasui and Tatsuya Furihata redesigned the acoustic architecture under Momose’s guidance. This model debuts the Mid Point Shifted X Bracing paired with a Shallow Scalloped profile, a technique previously reserved strictly for Momose’s top-tier Custom Shop builds.
